MCG manufactures the
world's largest range of SPDs--from I-peaks of 20kA up to 800kA. But 99.99%
of recorded lightning is below 300kA. So why do we manufacture an SPD with 800kA?
There are several reasons:
With MCG protectors
the larger the I-peak capability:
 |
The more protection
paths per phase there are. (In the SF800XT,
there are 20 paths per phase. The 202XT has 5 paths per phase. The
SurgeFree 120 and 160 series have 2 paths per phase.) |
 |
The greater the
joule rating. This means the larger the
protector, the more joules of heat the protector can safely dissipate.
|
 |
The greater the
clamping ability. MCG can clamp high
amplitude surges down to safe levels. A SurgeFree 160M for example, can
clamp a 10kA 6kV surge down to 1kV. |
